Ever since I was a kid in high school, I'd told myself that I would own a Jaguar E-Type someday before I died.  But mine had to be a British Racing Green Fixed Head Coupe with a Biscuit interior - in my mind, the epitome of the genre.  The convertibles are nice, but the coupe's styling is just one of the classic automotive designs of all time.  And in BRG/Biscuit - well, it just doesn't get any better.  To me, at least.

This car was purchased from a fellow New England Jaguar and Alfa Romeo club member.  It is a driver, not a trailer queen (which is the way I prefer my cars).  It is a 1970 Series II model, but it has been converted from the Series II's anemic two small Stromberg-Carlson carburetors to the more potent three big SU carburetors that the Series I E-Types came with.  If you're into originality, this isn't the car for you.  If you're into driving (whilst looking really good), then perhaps it is.

Here's a list of some of the attention that this E-Type has received within the past five years (a lot of it much more recent than that):

• The mainly excellent body was prepped for paint; floor and battery tray were replaced

• BRG paint applied to excellent (if not concours) standard)

• The Biscuit interior is all new: Leather seats, headrests, seat cushions, complete carpet set, headliner, door and rear hatch panels, console covering, lap and shoulder belts, etc.

• Dynamat was installed for insulation and sound deadening

• Virtually all rubber seals, gaskets, and strips have been renewed

• The rear differential subassembly was removed and completely rebuilt, with new brake rotors and pads, brake hoses, four new shocks, differential seal, suspension bushings

• New bonnet gas struts

• New uprated starter motor

• New tailpipes and mufflers, exhaust manifold gaskets

• New engine mounts

• New clutch slave and master cylinders

• Valves recently adjusted

• New steering rack mount and steering U-joint

• All new hoses and belts

• New water pump and idler pulley

• New oil pressure sender

• Set of new BF Goodrich Comp T/A tires

• Recent complete tune-up

As stated above, this car is a driver, not a show car (and is priced accordingly).  At some point in its life, it had apparently been hit lightly in the front and there is a ripple in the bonnet that can be seen from the repair, but the panel fits are all quite good.  The paint is excellent, if not quite to Jaguar concours standards (which are estimable).

This car is in fine mechanical and cosmetic condition, and is one that you can start driving and enjoying immediately.  I'm selling it because I currently have more cars than fit in my garage (this one does get a space) and, having owned around ten various Alfa Romeos over the years, I keep gravitating back to them.  And I do have another Jaguar - a 2003 XKR that I use regularly (BRG/Biscuit, of course).
