The styling of the BMW Z3 Coupe is one of those ya-like-it-or-ya-don't propositions.  Personally, I like it a lot—it's aggressive, cute, and unique all at the same time.  If it's not your cuppa tea, then ya might as well surf on.

We bought this car new in February of 1999.   Green over tan is my favorite color combination (the color is not as bluish as it appears in these photos).  It's covered a mere 13,000 miles!  These miles include a 5,000-mile trip to Minnesota and a 1,000-mile trip to DC, so what few there are were mostly highway miles.

When BMW designed the Z3 convertible a few years back, they started with the venerable 3-series chassis and stiffened it to strengthen the convertible.  Then, when they designed the coupe version, all of that stiffening stayed.  The resulting Z3 Coupe has two and a half times the torsional rigidity of the convertible!  The upshot is that it's a rock-solid car that corners as if on the proverbial rails!

The Z3 Coupe is propelled by BMW's famous 2.8L 6-cyl 24-valve engine that develops 193 HP and 206 lb-ft of torque.  This gets you to 60 MPH in 6.3 seconds—not too shabby.  My car has the 5-speed transmission (natch).  Other performance features include Traction Control, ABS brakes, 16-inch cast alloy wheels, and 225/50 ZR16 Michelin tires.

In addition to its sporting nature, the Z3 Coupe is also pretty luxurious.  The interior is completely leather, and there are such amenities as A/C, cruise control, factory Harman Kardon anti-theft sound system that includes a subwoofer, power assisted steering and brakes, power windows and outside mirrors, four air bags, central locking, power heated seats (wonderful!), burl walnut console, yada yada.  Options on this car include power moonroof, on-board computer, and metallic paint.

The car came with a 4 year / 50,000 mile transferable warranty, so you'll have almost two years and lots of miles to go!   Absolutely nothing has gone wrong with it—we've just had standard maintenance done.  Our Z3 is completely stock, as it came from the factory.

Why am I selling it?  [Sigh.]   Just gotta move on.  I've come to acknowledge and accept the affliction that I have, namely trying to own as many cars as I possibly can in my lifetime (see Cars We've Owned).  The car had a sticker price of $38,345.  I paid $36K, brought back up to $38K with tax.  The book retail value according to NADA is $31K, Kelley Blue Book $32K, and Edmund's $29K.  I'll accept the first $28K that happens along, and will listen to close offers.

I'm sure I've left out some of the info that you're interested in, so please feel free to contact me by email at dave@dvpratt.com, by phone at 781-320-8208, or by fax at 603-907-8186.
