Why am I selling it? It's simply TOO MUCH CAR for me!
I'm 50 years old and have owned several older Alfas, MGs, and Jags. I now
realize that my heart lies with these older examples - they're the ones I grew up with.
If, on the other hand, YOU are looking for a real, truly thoroughbred performance vehicle,
this is the one.
1989 was the first year of the great current generation of Turbo SEs. The electrical
system is mainly Delco, scrapping the quirky Lucas periphenalia of previous models. In
1990 and 1991 they added ABS (I'LL control the acceleration and deceleration, thank you)
and a driver's air bag (eliminating the very nice Momo steering wheel of the '89). These
and other "improvements" also added weight. So many people consider the '89 to
be the ultimate year for Turbo SEs.
This car was purchased new by the owner of a tire store in California, and there was a
brand new set of Goodyear Eagle ZR50 tires on it when I got it (2000 miles ago). I bought
it in the summer of '96 through Lotus Motorsports Inc. in Boston. Their superb service
department performed a major service on the car, including the timing belt, before
delivering it to me. Nothing has gone wrong with it since. Everything works - the AC
produces air that's quite cold. The car is extremely fast yet has very forgiving handling
characteristics. It'll outperform any Corvette, and virtually any other production
automobile, especially when you consider both acceleration and handling. On top of it, I
averaged 23 MPG even with my somewhat heavy foot! Despite the fact that the engine is
mounted directly behind the driver, engine noise is surprisingly low. With the fiberglass
body and galvanized chassis, it should last forever (even in New England). Check out the
upper portion of the Window Sticker for a list of the car's standard equipment. I have the
original manual, tools, window sticker, and sales brochure.
I am asking $31,000 for this beautiful beast, and will consider reasonable offers.
I'm sure I've left out some of the info that you're interested in, so please feel free to
contact me by email at dave@dvpratt.com or by phone
or fax at 781-320-8208.
Thanks -
